Chill atmosphere. If you like playing pool/ Billiards then this is your place

While I understand that this is a pool hall, Slate Cafe has marketed themselves to be a restaurant as well. Which would mean we expected to be waited on. But it seems the only way we could have been waited on was if we sat at a table close to the bar to eat only or we just sat at the bar. We were there for pool and lunch and sadly, the Slate Cafe lost out on more money today because we spent our $5 for pool and left. It's a shame that your employees will ruin this establishment because your food and atmosphere are very nice. Teach your employees to wait on people while they are there instead of sitting at the bar on their phones, chit chatting with each other.

Although in the past I would have given Slate Cafe a 4 star rating, I can't this time. We took an out of town guest to dinner and what a disappointment it was. I started with the Spinach and Strawberry Salad (which I have gotten every time I have been to the Slate Cafe) and a what a disappointment. In the past the salad contained hunks of strawberries and candied pecans and hunks of goat cheese......this salad had spinach and red onion with very little slivers of strawberries, very little goat cheese and NO candied pecans. 2 of the 3 people ordered the portabello mushroom burger - the only vegetarian item on the menu and you are out of Brie cheese. The mushroom was marinated in such a sour marinade that I couldn't even eat the mushroom - another menu item we get every time we eat there. Lastly, I told our guest that your french fries are the best I have ever tasted - not these - so over cooked we couldn't eat them and no seasoning on them so they tasted blah. On the positive side, our guest got the 3 B hamburg and said it was alittle overcooked but tasty. Everyone is entitled to a bad day so we'll give it one more try before making a final decision to go/not go back.

To be as quick to the point with this review as I can be, the food took forever even though they were far from busy. Easily a 30 minute wait for the food, which sadly wasn't even worth it. I've never had potato wedges that were soaked in the oil they were cooked in to the point of them shining like a sun bather at the beach, the shrimp and chicken "stir fry" was more akin to left over take out that soaked too much in soy sauce leaving one super thirsty due to the amount. The "scallop wrapped bacon" was pretty much just bacon and that's being kind. Lastly, the waitress was constantly going to socialize with people across the room that were playing pool rather than doing her job or checking up on us, again not at all busy. This place would be best off sticking to what it clearly wants to focus on being, a hick gathering ground for billiards with some booze and snacks on the side.

Unfortunately, we will not be returning after our visit today. We have been here once before and experienced the same issue which makes me believe this is how they run their business. We came in and were not greeted by anyone at the front desk. We waited for someone to come over so we could get started playing pool. We decided to play for an hour and chose our table. We PLANNED to eat lunch here as well. However, when no one came over to take our order, we decided to just play our pool and leave to eat lunch elsewhere. Like I stated, this happened before to us. The first time we were here, no one waited on us while we were playing pool. My husband had to go get someone to come wait on us. Today, we decided to wait until they came to us and they never came. Mind you, there was one other table playing pool and we never saw anyone approach them for anything either. There were a couple sitting at a table and they were waited on. I believe there was only one employee working and that was the bartender. She waited on the one table and that was it. The other table seated had to go up to the bar to get refills. The other "employees" that were there were in and out of the kitchen. I assume they were employees but you wouldn't know to be honest, they were dressed in street clothes and mostly sat at the bar and only got up to go in the kitchen or behind the bar.

Great time. Nice atmosphere and the bartender Bobby B serves great drinks
